The Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology was awarded for the year 2018.

Winners – James P. Allison i Tasuku Honjo z Japonii – have developed a new method of fighting cancer by unlocking the immune system. This allows T lymphocytes to be activated, destroying cancer cells. This resulted in the acquisition of a new tool in the treatment of diseases - immunotherapy. The first drugs are already in use, now we are waiting for the next one. Prize, which will be shared between the two winners, totals 9 million Swedish kronor, that's a million dollars.

The award ceremony in the field of medicine and physiology traditionally began the Nobel week. Next, The Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will award the prize in physics, and a day later in chemistry.
