Service “BBC Health” published the research results, illustrating the public's underestimation of the risks associated with smoking marijuana.

Specialists from British Lung Foundation conducted among 1000 adults survey on marijuana smoking. As it turned out, 30% people wrongly believed, that it is a harmless agent, and 88% – that tobacco cigarettes are more harmful than marijuana.

Meanwhile, the truth is this, that her smoking increases the risk of lung cancer until 20 times more than smoking, it is also associated with more frequent cases of tuberculosis and acute bronchitis. Some studies also indicate a greater risk of schizophrenia in marijuana smokers.

The main cause of this condition is this, that marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and they retain smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers. That means inhaling four times as much tar and five times as much – carbon monoxide – than with tobacco cigarettes.
